Summer Lawn Care Tips – June 2025

6/12/2025 1:32:42 PM

As summer heats up, it's important to care for your lawn while following the City of Heath's Stage-1 water restrictions.

Weed Control
Weeds thrive in the heat and can quickly overtake healthy turf. Spot-treat with the correct herbicide for your weed type—your local nursery can help if you bring in a sample. Always follow label instructions, especially during high temperatures.

Fertilization Schedule

• Early June – Apply a final round of grassy pre-emergent to reduce late-summer weeds like crabgrass and goosegrass.
• Late June–Early July – Use a slow-release fertilizer (3-1-2 ratio) to feed your lawn through the hotter months without overloading it.

Watering Guidelines (City of Heath Restrictions)

• Sprinkler or irrigation system use is allowed only twice per week, based on your home address.
• No watering (including hand-watering) is allowed between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
• Hand-watering
with a hose, drip irrigation, or soaker hose is permitted any day outside of restricted hours.
• For best results, water deeply in the early morning (ideally between 3:00 AM and 8:00 AM) to reduce evaporation.
• Lawns typically need about 1 inch of water per session to encourage deep root growth.

Sticking to a solid summer maintenance plan—while following city guidelines—will keep your lawn healthy, green, and thriving.
